Veterans' Day U.S. Flag Placements on Graves
Each Memorial and Veterans' Day the Jewish War Veterans and the Dallas Jewish Committee on Scouting sponsor the Scouts to replace worn out and weathered flags on the graves of our veterans or place flags on those veteran's graves that have not previously had flag. We will meet at the JCC at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017, go to one cemetary for an opening salute to the flag, and then go to various Jewish cemetaries to place the flags.
Religious Emblems Workshop
In the past, each year the DJCoS has sponsored a workshop to help Scouts earn their religious emblem awards. Starting in 2017 we will be sponsoring two workshops each year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. The next upcoming workshop will be held on Sunday, at the beginning of December, at Temple Emanu-El.
Scout Shabbat is held each year to coincide with the founding date of the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910. This year Scout Shabbat was held on Saturday, February 9, 2018, with the time and location yet to be determined.
Jewish/Islamic Pinewood Derby
The Jewish and Islamic religions have many things in common, one of which is having days available for activities when our Christian friends are celebrating their religioius holidays. So, this year, while our friends are celebrating Easter, our Scouts will be doing something with absolutely no religious overtones ... having a Pinewood Derby. This will give our Cubs a chance to have a great time plus learn that Scouts of other religions are in many ways not that different from ourselves in a social atmosphere. This event will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2018 (Easter Sunday), with the time and location yet to be determined.
Israel Scout-Tzofim Friendship Caravan
During the beginning of July the Caravan spent time with us here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area meeting people, performing at Jewish Family Services, assorted churches, the Legacy Willow Bend, the JCC Camps, and a big community-wide show at the Jewish Community Center. We are now beginning to plan for their return in July 2018. Below are photos of some of their activites.
